Description

From the light polluted skies of Los Angeles… a darker than I can remember Lunar eclipse.

The  nearly total eclipsed moon arose over the rooftops of the neighborhood's houses on Sunday evening, during bright twilight.  I started 60 second exposures, back to back with two small refractors (TMB 92ss and SV70st) followed with a 60 second break (Great for focusing adjustments).  Not a good choice for exposure times as you can see with this animation @ a little less than 50% scale.  Next November's lunar eclipse I will capture 1minute on followed by one minute off  (as opposed to this times 2minutes on 1 minute off).

This animation is using the SV70st with the 0.8x FF.

Here you will see the first 22 frames adjusted for the totality phase, followed by 13 frames maintaining the dark exposure histogram (over exposed penumbral covered moon/maintaining the orange umbral shadow) and ending with12 frames with the histogram adjusted for the bright penumbral shadow on the moon.

Processing perfomed in AS3!(alignment),  PixInsight (sharpening), ImPPG (disc alignment) and PiPP (cropping to file conversion)

All in all I filled up 3 x 500GB SSDs and have yet to process images from the TMB 92ss.
